How Did I Find Chiropractic?

By Dr. Corry

After college, I returned home to a small town in Kansas both to refocus and to visit my brother who was sick with a disease called Hypereosinophilic Syndrome (HES). This disease is common in the blood once a a parasitic infiltration occurs. My father was retired from the Air Force and had taken my brother to the hospital, where he struggled as his arms or legs would swell with an inflammatory response as his body reacted to the immature eosinophil cells. Treatment was medication (mainly massive doses of steroids), which would result in a normal blood value count that would return to elevated levels a week after treatment. The disease was usually fatal in children, but fortunately he was older (14), and he would go on to become only the third to survive.

My father and I looked into chiropractic care for my brother. I had never heard of chiropractic before and was curious to learn what it was all about. The chiropractor was middle-aged at the time and a seasoned veteran in his field. He explained how an innate intelligence controls and coordinates your entire body through the nervous system. Wow! My father and I never heard such a thing before and we wanted more information. The chiropractor went on to say that our spine is the vault of bone that houses the spinal cord — an extension of the brain. He further stated that he could gently move the spine to relieve pressure on nerves and restore health to the body. My father and I were floored and wanted more, especially after my brother was healed…and to this day has been fine. My father, brother, and I proceeded to all later graduate from Cleveland Chiropractic College, and I have spent the last 35 years helping others to a happier, healthier life.
